J Hunter Pearls Wins Exporter of the Year Award

An increase in the number of pearl exports to European markets resulted in J Hunter Pearls Fiji winning the Fisheries Exporter of the Year at the 2014 Westpac Prime Minister's Exporter of the Year Awards last week. The win adds to the recognition received in 2006, 2007 and 2008. Leanne Hunter of J Hunter Pearls Fiji said they had been exporting pearls since 2005 and had won awards in the past but it was great to be acknowledged. "It's great to be acknowledged for the value we provide as exporters of a high quality Fiji Made product," she said. "We are also very appreciative of our government's efforts to support exporters and the hard work done by Investment Fiji. Read the full article here

Fiji Pearl Farmer Upbeat about Outlook

Pearl farmer J. Hunter Pearls Fiji is steadily getting back on its feet after enduring serious losses from the devastation caused by Cyclone Tomas that hit the north and east areas of Fiji in March 2010. The hurricane wiped out the company’s pearl farm infrastructure, destroying its 2011 harvest. This marks the first time in eight years that J. Hunter Pearls Fiji has no pearls available for export.

The jewel in Fiji’s pearl industry crown

Located on the southern shores of Vanua Levu, Fiji’s second biggest island, picturesque Savusavu has for hundreds of years attracted visitors.

From the sailors who visited in the 18th and 19th centuries to trade for copra and the region’s rich harvests of sea cucumbers and more latterly, the hundreds of SCUBA divers eager to see first-hand the colourful soft coral and magnificent marine life that have earned this corner of Fiji a world-wide reputation.

But Savusavu today is gaining international prominence for yet another gift from the sea – the beautiful and very differently coloured pearls farmed by local producer J.Hunter Pearls which cannot be found anywhere else in the world.

J Hunter Pearls Third Annual Auction

Good news came to the pearl world with the results of J. Hunter’s third annual auction of Fiji pearls.

J. Hunter Pearls Fiji brought home stunning results given the state of the South Sea pearl markets. The J. Hunter team attributes this success to their commitment to staying the course originally laid out. Their concept started at the farm level by producing very special pearls of both color and size while making sure to benefit the Fijian fishing rights owners around their farms.
